TOUR REVIEW

Featuring: Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Zombie, Mudvayne & Soil
Article By: Kelly Buckner

Having been famed the hardest kick ass metal show for 2001; the Merry Mayhem tour is stomping heads across America. With a combination of old school metal and new day style, this show will rock your Christmas holiday. In the keeping of tradition for the major label section, I will highlight some of the important details for each artist/group; however, I will also add some tour news and highlights. Sit back, throw in the latest Ozzy CD, and get the scoop!

OZZY OSBOURNE

Hated by hard-line conservative types, loved by everyone else, Ozzy has made his mark in the metal scene simply by being feared and followed. Controversy will always be poured on thick when you are in the spotlight; Ozzy has definitely had his share of both. The biggest misunderstood situation Ozzy has found himself in was the "biting of the head" incident with the bat. Coincidently, Ozzy thought it was a fake bat and found himself in the emergency room for a rabies shot shortly after the incident. One thing can be said for this showman, his style and ear for brilliance have led his path down a very successful journey of the metal world. From famed tours such as Ozz Fest, Ozzmosis, and now The Merry Mayhem Tour, this artist has shown the world Ozzy is the metal man!

ROB ZOMBIE

Dark, deep vocals and lyrics with smooth metal rhythms have landed this artist in the fame spot more then once. Some intriguing information, that some Zombie fans may not know, he has worked as a bike messenger, porn zine art director and was production assistant for the TV series Pee-Wee's Playhouse. Lately, he has also produced a sequence in the Beavis & Butt-head Do America movie. A multi-faceted talent wiz, Zombie won many fans with his famed former group White Zombie. Now a solo act, his record Hellbilly Deluxe outsold any White Zombie release, in the first week. Like Ozzy, many Zombies’ appearance may frighten some; musically his has made his waves in the metal scene.

MUDVAYNE

A Midwest metal band, born and raised in Peoria, IL, should be an inspiration to those in the scene around here. Maybe their music isn't appealing to you; however, their story is one to make some groups envious. After their first album release they were signed to Epic Records and toured with Slipknot. Now on tour with Ozzy and Zombie, these guys are getting a taste of the spotlight and loving every minute of it. One thing can be said for this group, they have a flashy stage show and make up to boot. Remember, you may not like their style but their story tells a thousand tales!

SOiL

Making a huge splash in the scene with their recent release "Halo", this group is flying high on the Merry Mayhem tour, showing the world that an indie group can have major labels eating out of their hands. Their big bounce into the scene started with their 3-song sampler landing in the hands of 6,000 Chicago area fans. Shortly after, they were all over the airwaves and labels were falling around their feet. Their sound has a lot of groove, and their lyrical rhythm ties their groove up sweetly. They have nowhere else to go but up, and SOiL is doing that at a rapid pace. Hold on and enjoy the journey guys, ask Ozz all about it!

The Merry Mayhem Tour

Just to give you a little background on this tour...originally famed the Black Christmas tour; the name was changed shortly after the Sept. 11 attacks. Now set to be not only a metal tour extravaganza, Ozzy has offer to donate money to the relief effort for every "Ozz Bless America" merchandise that is sold. Imagine that...helping a cause and getting cool swag, you can't go wrong! Although the tour has not gone off without its share of problems, e.g. Ozzys' broken leg, many fans that are able to check out the show are walking away very satisfied customers. If you are on any part of the "leg" of this tour, I highly suggest you move your ass to the ticket office and pick up a few. So get out there a have a Merry Mayhem Night Before Christmas
