This site features theatre news, especially for the theatre professional, but also has an exceptional searchable database of theatres around America
Over 8,000 links to theatre companies are included on this master site. A particularly nice feature is the geographical arrangement of links.
The Internet Broadway Database
Patterned after the wildly successful Internet Movie Database, this site offers an extensive database of Broadway credits, shows, and dates. Great site for Research.
The Internet Off Broadway Database, Lortel Archives
Of course, not all theatre in America is “Broadway”, some of the greatest works were produced OFF-Broadway. This database, is dedicated to these plays, artists, and venues. It is not as complete as it’s big brother Broadway directory but is remarkably fertile in it’s information.
And of course not all theatre is American either! There’s a great world out there. This website also provides a database of shows/people/theatres but it’s scope is the broadest, and of course with the territory comes lots of holes in the holdings. Great for research though.
Ken McCoy’s Guide to Online Theatre Resources
This Guide, by Dr. Ken McCoy, Associate Professor of Communication Studies and Theatre Arts at Stetson University is both excellent and comprehensive. Founded in 1993, the guide is almost as old as and makes for a great parallel resource.
A staple for many years, this web includes many research resources including a number of databases, theatre listings, obituaries, news, etc. It is also a great resource for the public looking for show tickets, Broadway show listings, etc.
Specialty Professional Theatre Links
Listings of theatre companies in America based on classifications such as: Shakespeare Festivals, Children’s Theatre, Alternative Theatre. The list is not comprehensive, but it is useful.
Alas, while this site used to be exceptional in it’s coverage of the stage, in particular the British stage, the site now has more film star news than theatre news, but there is still stage news to be found in places.
Especially good (obviously) for research on Tony Award nominees and recipients. Nice site with good data.
World Wide Web Virtual Library of Theatre Resources
Nice directory, especially of electronic play texts and theatre images.
